3D Secure provides an additional layer of security when shopping online by requiring authentication from the cardholder for each eligible transaction.
For 3D Secure technology to work, both the card and the merchant (i.e. the website from which items are being purchased) need to be 3D Secure compliant and 3D Secure enrolled. All Banif Visa Debit and Credit cards are eligible for 3D secure.
3D Secure works using dynamic One-Time Passwords, which will be sent to the cardholder’s chosen mobile number when carrying out an online transaction.
To apply, all I need to do is log in to the Banif@st internet Banking portal and click on the ‘3D Secure’ button on the bottom-right or visit any Banif branch.
Frequently asked questions
What is 3D Secure?
3D Secure is a system that gives me an additional layer of security when shopping online. It protects me against unauthorised and fraudulent card transactions by requiring authentication every time I make an online purchase from a 3D Secure Merchant. It is completely free of charge, easy to use and available on all my Banif Visa Debit and Credit Cards.
How much does the service cost?
The service is completely free of charge.
How do I enrol my card in 3D Secure?
To enrol my card I simply need to log onto Banif@st Internet Banking, click on the 'Cards' menu, select 'Enrol Card' and input the required details. Alternatively I may visit any Banif Branch.
Which Banif cards are linked to the 3D Secure service?
The service is on all Banif cards:
- Banif Visa Debit Card
- Banif Visa Classic Credit Card
- Banif Visa Gold Credit Card
- Banif Visa Pavi Credit Card
- Banif Visa Manchester United Credit Card
- Banif Visa Hello Kitty Card
How does it work?
Once I have registered my card for the 3D Secure service and I am making a purchase online at a participating merchant (i.e. seller’s website) I will be asked to enter a One-Time-Password that will be sent to my phone via SMS. The transaction will be authenticated within seconds and my purchase will be complete.
I will receive a new passcode every time I attempt to make a purchase at a participating merchant. This helps prevent the unauthorised use of my card and increases my confidence when shopping online.
How do I recognise participating merchants?
A participating merchant will have the VISA logo prominently displayed on the website. I will only be asked to authenticate an online purchase through the 3D Secure service when I shop with a participating merchant. More and more online stores are signing up for this service every day.
Do I need to re-enrol if I lose or renew my card?
When a card is reported as lost, a new card will be issued. This new card must then be re-enrolled in 3D Secure.
In the case of renewal of a Debit Card, re-enrolment in 3D Secure will be required.
In the case of renewal of a Credit Card which has already been enrolled in 3D Secure and where the card number remains unchanged, the new card will also be automatically enrolled.
